MARKDOWN

A lightweight markdown reader and editor for Windows — open your notes, research, and docs with tabs, live preview, math, diagrams, and Daisi sign-in.

Markdown Without the Browser Tab Stack

Markdown is a desktop app for people who live in .md files — READMEs, research notes, design docs, and everyday writing. Open files from Explorer, keep several documents in tabs, and switch between raw source and a formatted preview.

It is part of the DAISI product family: sign in with Daisi when you need account features, work offline on local files, and stay on ordinary Windows hardware.

Open and go

Double-click a .md file or use Open — single-instance so another file focuses the same window.

Raw or formatted

Edit source with insert helpers, or preview tables, GFM, math (KaTeX), and Mermaid diagrams.

Recents that know your repos

Recent files show where they live and a badge for the git repository name when the path is inside a repo.

What You Get

Built for day-to-day markdown work on Windows — not a full IDE, not another web app.

Multi-file tabs

Keep several documents open, switch with a click, and close with unsaved-change prompts when needed.

Floating toolbar

Raw / Formatted toggle plus bold, italic, code, headings, tables, math, and Mermaid insert chips.

In-document links

Local markdown links open in the same tab with Back (Ctrl+[); external URLs use the system browser.

Keyboard first

Ctrl+N / O / S for new, open, save; Ctrl+/− and Ctrl+wheel for UI zoom (remembered between sessions).

Daisi sign-in

Optional Daisi SSO via email or phone OTP — same path as other DAISI apps when you need an account.

Light and dark

Theme toggle in the sidebar footer; brand wordmark and logomark adapt to expanded vs collapsed nav.

How to Use It

Windows installer — download, unzip, run setup. Shortcuts land on Desktop and Start.

1 Install

  1. Download the Windows zip from this page.
  2. Unzip, then run DMD-Setup.exe (one-click installer).
  3. Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts for DMD are created automatically.
  4. First launch may offer to associate .md / .markdown files with the app.

2 Open markdown

  1. Use Open (Ctrl+O) or double-click a .md file once associated.
  2. Or launch from Start / the desktop shortcut and open files from the app.
  3. To set as default later: right-click a .md file → Open with → choose the Markdown app → Always.
  4. If the app is already running, opening another .md focuses that window (single instance).

3 Edit and preview

  • Raw mode for writing; chips insert common markdown constructs.
  • Formatted mode for reading with math and diagrams rendered.
  • Ctrl+S saves; dirty tabs are marked so you do not lose work.

4 Recents and sign-in

  • The sidebar lists recent files; clicking one always brings it to the top.
  • Repo badges appear when a file lives under a git repository.
  • Login and theme live in the footer next to light/dark mode.
